The Property

Heron Bank ‘live-near-work’ is an innovative, eco-friendly development of six three bedroom homes on the banks of the River Lune at Halton near Lancaster.

The Place

Heron Bank is set in a beautiful site alongside the River Lune on the outskirts of the village of Halton. The village has a school, shops, pub, doctor’s surgery and Community Centre.

Halton is 3 miles from Lancaster city centre and mainline station and only 2 miles from the M6. Lancaster can be easily reached by a riverside cycle path or regular buses.

Heron Bank is next door to Forge Bank, a cohousing community that is also being developed by Lancaster Cohousing. Together, they make one of the largest PassivHaus developments in the UK to date. Anticipated completion date: November 2012

The Pitch

Heron Bank offers you the opportunity to live in an eco-home and walk just a few steps to work. Lots of developments now use the term ‘eco’ in their marketing. But Heron Bank actually delivers on the promise through PassivHaus design and green energy generation. The homes will only need minimal heating from a single radiator, powered by the community biomass boiler in the Mill. Electricity will be generated on-site from solar photovoltaic panels and the proposed hydro-electric scheme at Halton. The homes will be built using natural or recycled building materials with an emphasis on aesthetics and durability. Affordable work space will be available in the nearby Mill with reduced rental for Heron Bank residents.

The Price
