On-line at home
Home internet use among adults is rocketing, according to the regular Office of National Statistics omnibus survey. In the three months before the latest February interview, 63% of adults said they had accessed the internet, with 86% doing so from home.
Among those who had used a computer or the internet, 65% of men and 48% of woman said their skills were self-taught and just over half of both genders had sought informal help from friends, colleagues or a relative.
Adults aged 25-44 the most likely to buy on-line, at 73 per cent), and 49 per cent of men and 35 per cent of women had used their internet connection to handle their finances.
