Bellrope Gardens - Location

The ancient and highly-picturesque town of Thaxted, located amidst the breathtaking Essex countryside, provides the perfect setting for a superb collection of Charles Church homes at Bellrope Gardens. Unspoiled and still resonating with the echoes of its medieval past, evident in its many surviving historic buildings, Thaxted effortlessly combines an enviable quality of life with easy access to many of the amenities expected in the 21st century.

Set within the north-west of Essex, Thaxted is characterised by its impressive church, timeless streets and lanes, 14th century Guildhall and market place, and its unmistakable early 19th century windmill complete with sails. Thaxted was much loved by and was for some years the home of renowned classical composer Gustav Holst, who was responsible for inaugurating the town's celebrated music festival, since re-established as an annual series of events in 1980.

Today this thriving country town, co-incidentally a major centre for Morris dancing, offers a number of traditional inns and restaurants in which to dine, and local shops are supplemented by a post office, dental surgery, library and butcher and baker's, catering for most people’s everyday needs.

Thaxted is also home to a primary school and several nurseries, whilst a greater selection of schools for pupils of all ages can be found slightly further afield.

A county of dramatic contrasts, Essex encompasses a variety of landscapes, from ancient woodlands to enchanting stretches of coastline, and is rich in parks, gardens, historic houses and numerous attractions, all providing a wealth of leisure and recreation possibilities.

Despite its rural outlook, Thaxted is well served by a local bus network and lies within 14 miles travelling distance of the M11, offering swift access to Cambridge and both the M25 and London, ideal for commuting and leisure purposes. Regular train services from Stansted Mountfitchet station, just over 8 miles away, provide rapid access to Cambridge in around half an hour and London's Liverpool Street Station in just over three quarters of an hour. For those travelling further afield, Stansted Airport offers flights to a wide variety of destinations.
