Public plaudits for live/work artists
Staffordshire-based live/worker and graphic designer Jason Conway has been named runner-up in the much sought-after Macworld and Quark® UK Designer of the Year competition, awarded for his design for a reception area panel for a shipping company.
The panel of judges agreed Jason’s design was one of the most inspiring of all the entries. The panel will be showcased at the awards ceremony in London’s Inig02 arena.
‘I’m thrilled to receive such a prestigious accolade,’ said Jason, who runs design studio Ideo-Sync from Midland Heart Housing Association’s live/work complex in Queen Street, Burslem.
Behind the scenes
The last weekend in June offers another chance to check out the creative work and studios of live/workers in south London’s Havelock Walk, one of the UK’s most successful live/work settlements.
Havelock Walk’s Open Studios is now a regular twice-yearly feature at Forest Hill, but it also extends to the wall of the Abbey Building Society at the entrance to the mews terrace. This wall will on 28 and 29 June feature a work by sculptor Tom Crane, and as yet remains a closely guarded secret.
See Havelock Walk’s website here for details of who will be exhibiting and how to get to Havelock Walk.
Both Queen Street in Burslem and Havelock Walk in Forest Hill feature prominently in Live/Work Network’s latest publication Tomorrow’s property today: sustainable live/work development in a low carbon economy. For details, see www.liveworknet.com
