Live/work backed to curb commuting
Plans for urban extensions to Bromyard and Ledbury should contain live/work units, according to local authority’s council’s planning documents for the two Herefordshire townsHerefordshire council’s preferred spatial options for Bromyard and Ledbury, which have gone out for public consultation over the past month, says that both towns are characterised by relatively high levels of out-commuting.
In Ledbury and Bromyard, the proportion of workers travelling more than ten kms to work is more than 40% and 37% respectively. The spatial options propose that live/work units should be a feature of urban extension containing 250 homes being planned to the north west of Bromyard and a larger addition planned for Ledbury. It also says live/work units should be encouraged elsewhere in the towns.
In addition, the council’s rural economy says the development of live/work schemes should be encouraged in suitable locations, like local and rural service centres. The consultation documents will feed into the core strategy of the council’s local development framework. The documents can be downloaded here
